Life At Uni

Learning Disabilities at Uni

Not everyone copes with change in the same way. For students who have a learning disability, adapting to the new environment of university can be much more daunting and difficult than for the average person, especially if some are not aware of the disability they’ve got.

It doesn’t have anything to do with a person’s intelligence. In fact, a learning disability just means that students who have one need more time to process things, so they might more easily absorb information through interactive learning than by listening to a lecturer speak. This does not make them any less equipped for uni.

The university environment is designed to provide students with the tools to specialise in their field of choice no matter what difficulties they are facing. There are a variety of resources specially designed to provide extra support to those students who need it. Each institution’s programs vary, so check their website for specific information.
