Life At Uni

International Exchange

If you’ve always wanted to travel the world, doing a semester overseas as part of your university studies could be the best decision you’ll ever make.

Universities form partnerships with other universities and tertiary education providers around the world in order to offer students a range of international study opportunities. It’s also a great way of enhancing their degrees above and beyond a purely academic level.

The opportunities available vary by course and university but you can generally enjoy anything from a month to a year studying some of your subjects in another country. You may even receive funding from your university to support your expenses!

Ever wondered what it would be like to study overseas for a semester? Read this article from nUWS about Andrew, the first UWS student to go on exchange in Mexico

Globetrotter gets a double dose of Exchange

After six months of international exchange in Mexico last year, Andrew Merheb – UWS' first exchange student in Mexico – enjoyed it so much he applied for a second exchange.

In July, Andrew will head to California State University in San Diego, USA, for a change of scene while completing economic subjects for his UWS Bachelor of Business and Commerce. The opportunity to explore new horizons while continuing his study with a partner university is one of the drawcards of the UWS Exchange program for Andrew. "It is like killing two birds with one stone, as I get to explore and experience a different culture and at the same time continue mystudies," he says. "I can enjoy myself while not wasting any time." What is the best thing about doing an international exchange? "I think it has enriched my life in many ways – this world has a lot to offer and travelling and experiencing change makes you a better person," according to Andrew. “You beginto appreciate what you have, and at the same time it motivates you to keep the challenges coming,” he says.

“Overall, my experience was amazing and I would recommend it to anyone.”
