Survival Guide

How to get out alive!

The stresses of high school canreally build up and before you know it, you might start to wonder whether it’s just too much to handle. Not only are you expected to do work for the six or so hours you’re actually at school, but there is also homework, assignments and the much dreaded exam time. And you haven’t even begun to consider your commitments outside of school including house chores, extracurricular activities and even a part time job. You might not realise it now, but your high school years could potentially be the best of your life – you’ll certainly make wonderful memories and friends that will stay with you for a lifetime!

To cope with the stress and demands, especially during those busy last couple of years when you feel like your future is hanging by a thread (even though it’s really not), you need to bust that pent up strain. You may like to do exercise to clear your mind, hangout with your friends, indulge in your hobbies or even do some charity work to ramp up your energy levels and keep you feeling fantastic.

Remember to always keep positive– losing this will be detrimental to your ability to cope and your academic success. Take care of your health and wellbeing by factoring into your schedule plenty of time for recreation and relaxation, as well as your study commitments. If you are experiencing constant trouble with the following, remember to seek help:

  • Difficulty sleeping
  • Lack of appetite
  • No interest in socialising
  • Feeling very emotional, including constant crying
  • Feeling like you can’t go on

EASY DE-STRESS TO CLEAR YOUR MINDAND STOP YOU FEELING DOWN:

  • Walks along the beach or park
  • Having a relaxing, early night
  • Changing up your diet to include healthy alternatives
  • Having a comedy movie night and vegging out on the couch
  • Spending the day with friends (remember to avoid talking about studying or school!)
